Summary: The Cisco Network Engineer role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining a secure and high-performance network infrastructure, with a focus on Cisco SD-Access, wireless networking, and Firepower management. The position is contract-based and requires a hybrid working model, with four days on-site each week. The successful candidate will work closely with IT teams to support network projects and ensure compliance with security standards. This role is classified as inside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, configure, and maintain Cisco SD-Access solutions to enhance network automation and security.
  • Manage and optimize wireless networks across campus, ensuring seamless connectivity and performance.
  • Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot Cisco Firepower devices and FMC (Firepower Management Center) for advanced threat protection.
  • Maintain and secure network perimeter, including Firewall policies, VPNs, and intrusion prevention systems.
  • Work closely with IT teams to support network infrastructure projects and day-to-day operations.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues, implementing proactive solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with security best practices and industry standards.
  • Provide technical documentation and knowledge transfer to internal teams.

Key Skills:

  • Cisco SD-Access (Software-Defined Access) - Strong experience in network automation, segmentation, and security policies.
  • Wireless Networking - Hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst, Aironet, or Meraki wireless solutions.
  • Cisco Firepower & FMC - Expertise in configuring and managing Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) and FMC.
  • Firewalls & Perimeter Security - Knowledge of Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, or Fortinet Firewalls and network access controls.
  • Routing & Switching - Strong understanding of BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and Layer 2/3 network protocols.
  • Troubleshooting & Monitoring - Experience with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Cisco DNA Center, or Splunk.
  • Certifications (Desirable) - CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Security, Cisco SD-Access Certification, or equivalent.
