Summary: The Network Engineer role in Aberdeen is focused on hands-on networking tasks, including switch configuration and deployment, within a fast-paced environment. The position requires an experienced engineer to support customer tasks related to network infrastructure. The contract is for three months and is classified as inside IR35. Key Responsibilities:
- Proven experience in networking and switch configuration (e.g., Cisco, Aruba, HP, etc.)
- Solid understanding of LAN/WAN principles, routing, and switching
- Strong troubleshooting skills across the OSI model (Layer 1–3) including physical connectivity, MAC, ARP, and IP-based connectivity checks
- Experience establishing and configuring VPNs, including Phase 1/Phase 2 negotiation, encryption standards, shared information, and security policies
- Ability to identify, respond to, and mitigate suspicious activity or potential cyber security threats (e.g., isolating affected devices, threat analysis, patching, escalation to management)
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network switches and related infrastructure
- Ensure smooth rollout of networking solutions and minimise downtime through proactive monitoring and issue resolution
- Methodical approach to problem-solving and strong documentation skills
