Summary: The role of Network Engineer involves providing expert support in a high-demand Managed Service Provider environment for an initial 3-month contract. The position requires a hybrid working arrangement in Manchester, combining on-site presence with remote work. The engineer will handle complex network incidents and provide technical leadership in a 24/7 global environment. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting, incident management, and proactive network health checks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a Tier 3/4 escalation point for complex network incidents across Cisco routing, switching, security, and wireless platforms.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across:
- Routing: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VRF, EVPN/VXLAN
- Switching: STP, VLANs, VTP, LACP, Spine-Leaf architectures
- Security: Cisco ASA/FTD Firewalls, VPN/IPsec, ISE, AAA
- Wireless: Cisco WLC, Access Points, 802.11 standards
- SD-WAN/SASE environments
- Perform advanced troubleshooting including packet captures, debug analysis, configuration audits, and system log reviews.
- Support multiple enterprise customers within a 24/7 global MSP environment.
- Take ownership of escalated incidents, ensuring SLA compliance and clear communication with stakeholders.
- Conduct proactive health checks, configuration reviews, compliance assessments, and performance tuning.
- Support network onboarding, migrations, life cycle upgrades, and change implementation.
- Provide technical leadership during P1/critical incidents, including bridge calls and recovery coordination.
- Deliver detailed Root Cause Analysis documentation and recommend service improvement actions.
Key Skills:
- Experience with Cisco routing, switching, security, and wireless platforms.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex network issues.
- Knowledge of BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VRF, EVPN/VXLAN, STP, VLANs, VTP, LACP, and Spine-Leaf architectures.
- Experience with Cisco ASA/FTD Firewalls, VPN/IPsec, ISE, AAA, and Cisco WLC.
