Network Design Engineer

Summary: The Network Design Engineer role focuses on producing and managing comprehensive engineering documentation for telecom projects in a hybrid work environment. The position requires technical expertise in network design, configuration, and collaboration with project engineers to ensure compliance with standards. The engineer will also be responsible for creating network topology diagrams and supporting technical change requests. A strong background in telecommunications and relevant qualifications are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce comprehensive engineering documentation based on specifications and high-level project information.
• Own and manage end-to-end design documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Provide technical input for change requests (CRQs) and support the evaluation and implementation of technical changes.
• Produce network design topology diagrams.
• Update network records.
• Assist Project Engineers during project delivery, offering guidance and resolving technical challenges.
• Ensure all documentation and designs comply with relevant standards and requirements.

Key Skills:

• Practical experience with legacy equipment operating SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) and PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) circuits.
• Proficiency in IP configuration, including routing and switching.
• Hands-on exposure to configuring equipment from various vendors, specifically: CISCO routers and switches, AVARA PDH/SDH devices, OTN XTRAN platforms (MPLS-TP XTRAN Chassis and TXCare Management Software), CISCO Prime Infrastructure, Microsoft Visio, Orion Modems, NOKIA 7705 SAR.
• Ability to translate high-level project information into detailed engineering documentation.
• Experience supporting technical projects and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of electricity substation telecommunications equipment (desirable).
• Understanding of DC power sources relevant to telecoms environments (desirable).
• Willingness and ability to learn new systems, technologies, and processes.
• Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Nokia certifications) are advantageous.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
• Keenness to learn and embrace telecommunications technology usage in the energy industry.
• Ability to work on projects with tight deadlines.
• Understanding of sensitivity (time and detail) of regulatory projects.
