Summary: We are looking for a Freelance Network Architect to design and optimize complex enterprise network environments. The role requires expertise in modern networking technologies and the ability to work in a fast-paced, large-scale setting. The position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams and providing technical leadership. This is a contract role based in Central London with a hybrid working arrangement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and architect scalable, secure, and high-performance network solutions across enterprise environments
- Assess current network infrastructure and recommend improvements aligned with business and technical requirements
- Lead network transformation initiatives, including cloud integration, automation, and modernisation efforts
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, security, cloud, infrastructure) to deliver cohesive solutions
- Produce high- and low-level design documentation (HLD/LLD)
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to network engineers and operational teams
- Ensure network designs meet compliance, resilience, and security standards
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex network issues when required
- Evaluate emerging technologies and provide strategic recommendations
Key Skills:
- Proven experience as a Network Architect in large-scale, enterprise environments
- Strong expertise across a broad networking stack, including: Routing & switching (BGP, OSPF, MPLS)
- Data centre networking (leaf-spine, VXLAN, EVPN)
- Network security (firewalls, segmentation, zero trust principles)
- Load balancing and application delivery
- Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid architectures
- Solid understanding of network automation and programmability (e.g., Python, Ansible, APIs)
- Familiarity with SD-WAN and software-defined networking concepts
- Strong knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, and resilience design
- Experience working in regulated or high-availability environments is desirable
- Certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, or equivalent
- Exposure to financial services or similarly complex industries
- Experience with monitoring, observability, and performance tuning tools
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for network infrastructure
