Summary: The Naval Ships Senior Detail Designer will operate as a senior designer within a team, demonstrating high technical design capability and serving as a role model. The role involves progressing complex design activities, mentoring team members, and assuring the quality of engineering outputs. The designer will also support audits and deputize for the Principal Detail Designer as needed. This position requires a strong understanding of the design lifecycle and the ability to make informed technical decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate as a senior designer within a team of up to 25 resources.
• Progress complex design activities using design tools and mentor team members.
• Check and assure other team members' work, including final sign-off of engineering outputs.
• Guide team members through Detail Design processes and support audits.
• Understand the design lifecycle and value stream within the discipline.
• Deputize for the Principal Detail Designer at management meetings when required.
• Advise Principal Designer on technical matters and assist in decision-making.

Key Skills:

• Experienced in the use of FORAN design software.
• Understanding of the business Operational Framework and Detail Design Framework.
• Knowledge of team integration with other Detail Design sub-disciplines.
• Experience in engineering, design, or a defence-related industry.
• Good working experience in multiple phases of the LCM.
• Typically HNC/HND qualified in a technology, engineering, or science-related discipline.
• Meet requirements for registration as Technician or Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council.
