Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Naval Architecture related advice and guidance to customers within the defence industry.
  • Assess performance of surface ships and submarines in various aspects such as manoeuvring, control, and stability.
  • Utilize industry standard and bespoke numerical simulation tools.
  • Present work in internal and external forums, including conferences and customer meetings.
  • Participate in business support activities, including bidding and planning through task estimates and breakdowns.
  • Collaborate with customers and colleagues to understand requirements and develop innovative solutions.
  • Ensure work is conducted safely, highlighting hazards and unsafe practices.
  • Encourage collaboration across the Group.

Key Skills:

  • Degree in Naval Architecture or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis and programming (Matlab, Python, etc.).
  • Ability to develop alternative strategies and innovate for customer value.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and presentational.
  • Good team working, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude and values of integrity and collaboration.
  • Desire to develop and grow technical skills and understanding.

Job Title: Naval Architect

Rate: Negotiable via Umbrella (Inside IR35)

Location: Bristol

Contract Length: 6 Months

Role purpose We are looking for people with a good background understanding of Naval Architecture to join our technical team. The focus of the role is to provide Naval Architecture related advice and guidance to customers within the defence industry.

The specific areas of interest include assessing surface ships and submarines to assess their performance in manoeuvring and control, dynamic stability, quasi-static stability, seakeeping, resistance and propulsion. The work will include use of industry standard and bespoke numerical simulation tools.

The role requires presenting work in internal and external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings. Participation in business support activities will also be required including bidding and planning activities through the provision of task estimates and breakdowns of task descriptions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Working collaboratively with customers and colleagues to understand the customers' requirements, help develop the package of work including looking at innovative solutions and then undertake the work in accordance with the agreed plan.
  • Ensure the work is conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices to Team Lead.
  • Actively participate and encourage increased collaboration across the Group.

The combination of qualifications and experience should be the equivalent to someone with a degree in Naval Architecture (or equivalent) who has a good understanding of how to use their skills and knowledge.
