Summary: The Multi-Skilled Technician role involves hands-on maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel and electric locomotives within a fast-growing rail organization. Candidates should possess mechanical and electrical expertise, ensuring the fleet remains safe and operational. The position requires adherence to safety and compliance standards while working in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Ideal candidates will have a recognized engineering qualification and proven experience in locomotive maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance, fault-finding, and repairs on locomotives
- Work on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Carry out overhauls and component rebuilds to industry standards
- Support commissioning and testing of locomotives post-maintenance
- Complete all job cards and maintenance records accurately
- Adhere to safety, quality, and compliance procedures at all times
- Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment
Key Skills:
- Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical or Rail Engineering)
- Proven experience in locomotive or rolling stock maintenance
- Strong fault-finding skills across both mechanical and electrical disciplines
- Knowledge of diesel-electric systems, traction motors, braking systems, and control systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals
- Flexible and safety-conscious approach to work, basic tooling required
- Experience working to depot maintenance schedules and procedures (preferred)
