Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in creating physical models using hand tools, machinery, and digital fabrication tools.
- Work on training projects, preparing drawings, presentations, and model samples.
- Contribute to exhibitions, presentations, and model logistics across the practice.
- Develop techniques, materials knowledge, and modelmaking methods through structured training.
- Support day-to-day workshop operations, including storage, handling, and safe movement of models.
Key Skills:
- A portfolio demonstrating 3D making, craftsmanship, or modelmaking potential.
- Strong conceptual thinking, creativity, and an interest in design.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and balance learning with hands-on responsibilities.
- Good organisational skills and confidence managing time effectively, prioritising tasks, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
- Fundamental understanding of the design process.
- 2D/3D CAD or Adobe Suite skills (advantageous but not essential).

As a Modelmaker Apprentice at Foster + Partners , you will join a highly skilled modelmaking team while completing a Level 6 apprenticeship that combines hands-on experience with academic learning. Over three years, you’ll develop practical modelmaking skills, contribute to design development, support exhibitions and presentations, and learn how physical models bring architectural ideas to life within a world-leading design practice.
This role is ideal if you want to:
- Assist in creating physical models using hand tools, machinery and digital fabrication tools.
