Summary: The role of Senior Mobile QA Engineer focuses on leading Android automation efforts to achieve comprehensive automation coverage for mobile applications. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate testing early in the development lifecycle and involves mentoring peers in automation best practices. The candidate will also be responsible for troubleshooting issues and optimizing CI/CD pipelines. This is a long-term contract position based in either Burgess Hill or Victoria, London, UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Android automation efforts using Espresso, Kotlin, and Jetpack Compose testing.
- Design and maintain scalable test frameworks (Espresso, Appium, WebdriverIO).
- Support iOS testing where needed using XCUITest.
- Define and execute in-sprint automation, regression suites, and end-to-end test flows.
- Collaborate with developers, QEs, and product owners to integrate testing early in the lifecycle (“shift-left”).
- Troubleshoot flaky tests, synchronization issues, and accessibility gaps.
- Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Slack reporting).
- Mentor QA peers and champion automation-first best practices.
- Perform functional and non-functional tests (performance, accessibility, device coverage, dark/light mode).
Key Skills:
- 7+ years of QA/automation experience, with 3+ years in mobile test automation.
- Strong Android automation expertise (Espresso, Jetpack Compose, Kotlin).
- Exposure to iOS automation (XCUITest, Swift) a plus.
- Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub, Gradle).
- Knowledge of mocking/stubbing APIs (MockWebServer, Mockito, etc.).
