Summary: The Microsoft SQL Server Developer / Architect role involves designing and maintaining enterprise database architectures to support complex business applications and high-volume transactions. The position requires developing advanced SQL Server solutions and implementing robust ETL processes while collaborating with various stakeholders. The role also includes optimizing database performance and supporting Azure-hosted SQL Server environments. This hybrid position is based in Baltimore, MD, and requires extensive experience in SQL Server development and database architecture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain enterprise database architectures that support complex business applications, high-volume transactions, reporting environments, and long-term scalability requirements.
- Develop advanced SQL Server solutions utilizing T-SQL, stored procedures, views, functions, triggers, and database objects that support mission-critical business operations.
- Design and implement robust ETL processes that integrate data across applications, reporting platforms, cloud services, and external systems while maintaining data quality and consistency.
- Create and optimize reporting and analytics solutions using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), Power BI, and related business intelligence technologies.
- Lead data modeling initiatives that support claims management, workflow automation, regulatory reporting, operational analytics, and enterprise decision-making.
- Analyze and optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, resource optimization, and architectural improvements.
- Support Azure-hosted SQL Server environments by designing solutions that maximize availability, performance, security, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with developers, architects, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable database and reporting solutions.
- Support database deployment automation, version control, release management, and CI/CD processes that improve development efficiency and reduce deployment risk.
- Contribute to database governance standards, architecture reviews, technical documentation, and modernization initiatives that strengthen the overall data ecosystem.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline; Master's degree preferred.
- Seven (7) or more years of SQL Server development and database architecture experience supporting enterprise applications and business-critical systems.
- Five (5) or more years of experience designing and supporting enterprise database environments, data models, reporting solutions, and analytics platforms.
- Demonstrated expertise developing advanced SQL Server solutions utilizing T-SQL, stored procedures, ETL processes, reporting technologies, and performance optimization techniques.
- Experience designing scalable database architectures that support high-volume transaction processing, reporting, analytics, and enterprise application workloads.
- Strong understanding of database normalization, dimensional modeling, data warehousing concepts, and enterprise data architecture principles.
- Experience implementing database security controls, data governance standards, auditing mechanisms, and data protection strategies.
- Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex database performance issues involving queries, indexing, infrastructure resources, and application workloads.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to engage technical teams, business stakeholders, and executive leadership.

Required Qualifications:

- Experience working within workers' compensation, insurance, healthcare, claims processing, financial services, legal services, or other highly regulated environments that manage sensitive data and complex business workflows.
- Familiarity with claims lifecycle management, adjudication systems, case management platforms, hearing management processes, and regulatory reporting environments.
- Experience designing enterprise reporting and analytics solutions utilizing Power BI, SSRS, SSAS, dashboard technologies, and self-service business intelligence platforms.
- Experience supporting Azure-hosted SQL Server environments, including performance optimization, storage configuration, backup strategies, and cloud-native database management practices.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, automated database deployments, schema version control, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps best practices.
- Knowledge of Azure Key Vault, Azure Blob Storage, Azure networking, monitoring platforms, and enterprise cloud security practices.
- Microsoft Certified Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or related database architecture certifications are highly desirable.
