Summary: The role of Microsoft Purview Lead (SME) involves supporting a critical phase of data governance transformation by leveraging deep technical expertise in Microsoft Purview. The successful candidate will bridge operational gaps, configure the system, and upskill internal teams while collaborating with third-party vendors and stakeholders. This position is essential for embedding Purview as a core capability within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the onboarding of data assets into Microsoft Purview, including metadata enrichment, classification, and lineage mapping.
- Configure governance controls: glossary terms, sensitivity labels, scan policies, and data quality rules.
- Collaborate with the Head of Data Governance to embed Purview into strategic governance initiatives.
- Deliver hands-on training to the Data Governance team and tailored sessions for business users (e.g. data stewards).
- Provide expert guidance on domain setup, collection management, and access control.
- Develop and maintain user guides, onboarding checklists, and operational playbooks.
- Monitor and report on data quality metrics and governance KPIs using Purview and Power BI.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, DPA, and internal data policies.
- Support strategic programmes and roadmap.

Following a recent implementation of Purview under tight deadlines, our client’s third-party provider was unable to fully onboard staff or operationalise the platform. This role will bridge that gap, bringing deep technical expertise to configure the system, make it operational, and upskill internal teams. You will collaborate closely with the third-party vendor and internal stakeholders to ensure Purview becomes a core capability across the organisation.
