Mechanical Fitter (BIW Installation)

Summary: Mechanical Fitters are needed for BIW installation in the Midlands, responsible for assembling and installing mechanical systems on automotive production lines. The role emphasizes adherence to quality, safety, and efficiency standards while collaborating with engineers and electricians. Candidates should possess strong mechanical skills and relevant experience in automotive manufacturing. The position may require shift work and physical activity on the factory floor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assemble and fit mechanical components on BIW automation lines and welding fixtures.
• Interpret and work from mechanical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
• Install, align, and secure jigs, fixtures, robots, and equipment in BIW lines.
• Conduct machine and tool troubleshooting and basic diagnostics.
• Collaborate with engineers and electricians during equipment installation or modification.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Maintain detailed documentation of maintenance activities and part replacements.
• Support commissioning and try-out activities for new BIW lines or modifications.

Key Skills:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on fitting experience.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
• Proficiency with tools and measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, torque wrenches, dial gauges).
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems (preferred).
• Good problem-solving and teamwork abilities.
• Awareness of safety protocols and procedures in a manufacturing environment.
• Education: ITI/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related trade.
• Experience: 2-5 years in a BIW or automotive manufacturing setup.
• Familiarity with robot-assisted BIW lines.
• Experience in automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment is preferred.
