- Support the design and development of complex mechanical handling systems, components, and assemblies for use in nuclear environments.
- Produce and review detailed design documentation including design reports, calculations, 3D models, and manufacturing drawings.
- Apply sound engineering judgement to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality requirements.
- Work closely with EC&I, civil, and process engineering disciplines to deliver fully integrated engineering solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and HAZOP/HAZAN studies.
- Contribute to project planning, cost estimation, and schedule management.
- Ensure designs meet client specifications and standards while maintaining a focus on operability, maintainability, and safety.
Core Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in mechanical design and engineering delivery within highly regulated industries (nuclear preferred, but oil & gas, defence, or power generation considered).
- Demonstrable experience in the design and development of mechanical handling systems and related equipment.
- Proficient in the use of common design tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar 3D CAD platforms.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials selection, manufacturing methods, and design substantiation.
- Experience producing and managing detailed design documentation and supporting project assurance processes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interface effectively across disciplines and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Accreditations
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards professional registration highly advantageous.
- Additional industry accreditations or nuclear safety training (e.g., SQEP, IOSH, SC clearance) are highly desirable.
