Mechanical Engineer

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, you will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of a wide range of mechanical systems and building services equipment.

Key duties will include:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive mechanical maintenance.
  • Maintaining and fault-finding on HVAC systems, pumps, motors, valves, pipework and associated plant.
  • Working on heating, hot and cold water systems, chilled water systems and general building services infrastructure.
  • Monitoring building plant performance and responding to engineering faults.
  • Assisting with statutory compliance checks and ensuring all records are accurately maintained.
  • Supporting minor installation and project works as required.
  • Liaising with colleagues, contractors and university stakeholders to minimise disruption to building users.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations and university procedures.

Candidate RequirementsThe ideal candidate will have:

  • A recognised mechanical engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, Apprenticeship or equivalent).
  • Proven experience within a commercial, healthcare, higher education, public sector or corporate environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building services maintenance.
  • Experience working on HVAC, boilers, pumps, valves, AHUs, FCUs and associated mechanical plant.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently.
  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

What's on Offer?

  • £30.00 per hour Umbrella or £27.00 per hour PAYE.
  • Monday to Friday working pattern.
  • Overtime available:
  • Saturday: Time and a Half (x1.5)
  • Sunday: Double Time (x2)
  • Ongoing temporary assignment with potential for long-term opportunities.
