Summary: The Mechanical Design Engineer role focuses on supporting a nuclear decommissioning programme in Reading, requiring expertise in mechanical systems design within safety-critical environments. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical design processes from concept to delivery using CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- Produce technical documentation including specifications, reports and manuals in line with nuclear regulatory standards.
- Support prototyping, simulations and FEA to validate and refine design concepts.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders across design, engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Ensure design compliance with health, safety, environmental, and nuclear legislation alongside engaging in continuous improvement of design methodologies and industry best practices.
- Provide input across multiple project stages, from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
Key Skills:
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (minimum ONC/OND required; HNC/HND desirable).
- 2+ years' experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within the nuclear or high-hazard sectors.
- Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), with experience in FEA and design validation tools an advantage.
- Strong understanding of engineering legislation and design compliance.
- Highly organised with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
