Summary: Our Client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract role focused on the detailed mechanical design of a cryogenic turbo-pump system in the Space Sector. The position requires expertise in turbo-machinery design and proficiency in CAD systems. The role is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is initially set for a duration of 6 months. The successful candidate will lead design efforts from conceptual sketches to final product qualification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate mean-line turbo-machinery designs into fully defined CAD models and technical drawings
- Develop high-integrity mechanical designs of components such as inducers, impellers, volutes, housings, and shaft assemblies
- Select materials compatible with cryogenic and thermally dynamic environments
- Specify geometries and tolerances using ISO GPS standards
- Select and size COTS components ensuring compatibility with operating conditions
- Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensure ease of production, assembly, inspection, and maintenance
- Lead design efforts from conceptual sketches through prototype builds to final qualified product
Key Skills:
- Experience in turbo-machinery and/or rotating equipment design
- Proficiency with CAD and PLM systems, preferably SolidWorks + PDM
- Hands-on experience in prototyping and design validation
- Strong communication skills for cross-disciplinary collaboration
- System-level thinking and capability to manage trade-offs in performance and reliability
