Summary: The Mechanical Design Engineer role at a leading Defence Organisation involves working on innovative missile systems, requiring a strong background in Defence or Aerospace and proficiency in Creo. The position is contract-based for an initial six months, with a hybrid working arrangement allowing for four days on-site and one day remote. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to develop and test mechanical designs while addressing manufacturing challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out Mechanical Design and proving activities for prime and variant products, including piece parts and assemblies.
- Support and liaise with manufacturing to resolve problems and defects.
- Assist in functional and environmental testing and trials.
- Liaise with suppliers and purchasing to resolve technical queries.
- Plan and report on day-to-day activities to meet project milestones.
- Clarify and generate requirements, challenging extraneous requirements to reduce lead time and design complexity.
Key Skills:
- Experience using Creo 3D design tool.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerance studies, environmental testing, mass property calculations, material selection, FMEA, design for manufacture/assembly, environmental gasket sealing, tooling/fixtures design, structural design, defence standards, review processes, product lifecycles, and industrial validation.
- Able to work as part of a multifunctional engineering team and participate in or host design reviews.
- An appreciation of other engineering areas/domains.
