Summary: The Mechanical Design Engineer will manage the design production process with a focus on safety and compliance, ensuring designs meet health and safety regulations. The role requires collaboration with analysis engineers and project teams to align designs with theoretical analysis and manufacturability. Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage design production with full lifecycle consideration (material, manufacture, installation, operation).
  • Ensure designs eliminate H&S risks per CDM regulations.
  • Approve/check 3D models and 2D drawings in line with company process.
  • Maintain compliance with Engineering Handbook and BS 8888 standards.
  • Collaborate with analysis engineers to align models with theoretical analysis.
  • Consider build sequence and ensure manufacturability before release.
  • Lead and document design/manufacturing reviews; communicate intent to project teams.
  • Support continuous improvement in design capability and efficiency.
  • Confirm correct door templates are used where needed.
  • Capture and manage design changes across projects.
  • Liaise with project teams and customers; provide technical support.
  • Follow ISO 9001 procedures for all engineering activities.
  • Attend customer meetings and visit shop floor as required.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum HND in Engineering, industrial sheet/steel fabrications OR minimum Bachelor’s degree (BEng Hons) in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering).
  • Ability to use Autodesk 3D Inventor, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Vault unaided.
  • Understanding of steel manufacturing techniques and limitations (incl. press brake).
  • Understanding of load paths, failure modes, and operating limits of steel structures/components.
  • A focus on quality adherence and timely output.
  • Knowledge of welding types, strengths, and limitations.

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Our client is a globally renowned provider of high performance protection systems, with a long history of working for the most demanding industries. They have a proven track record of being at the forefront of innovation and work with all emerging markets. Their design team are now looking for a proven mechanical engineer from a Nuclear, Rail, Submarine, or industrial manufacturing background.

  • 1) Minimum HND in Engineering, industrial sheet/ steel fabrications OR; 2) Minimum Bachelor’s degree (BEng Hons) in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering) Industrial sheet/ steel fabrications.
  • Ability to use Autodesk 3D Inventor, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Vault unaided.
  • Understanding of steel manufacturing techniques and limitations (incl. press brake).

Contract Rate : £40-45 per Hour

4 and 5-day week patterns (can take Friday off each week!)
