MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER NEW CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE FOR A MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER IN AMPTHILL

Initial 6-month contract £48 - £58 per hour via Umbrella 37.5-hour working week (Monday to Thursday)

Hybrid working – Mandatory onsite every Monday & Tuesday in Ampthill

Must be eligible for SC Clearance

WHO WE ARE?

We are recruiting on behalf of a globally recognised defence engineering organisation delivering some of the UK's most advanced land systems programmes.

Due to continued investment in vehicle capability development, they are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team supporting the ongoing design and development of Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs).

This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex defence programmes, contributing to the full product lifecycle from concept design through to development and engineering delivery.

WHAT WILL THE MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER BE DOING?

As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in the design and development of mechanical systems and complex mechanisms for advanced Infantry Fighting Vehicles.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll take ownership of mechanical designs from concept through to detailed design, using CREO and Windchill to develop robust engineering solutions capable of operating in demanding military environments.

You'll contribute to design reviews, perform engineering calculations, select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, and support the continued development of cutting-edge defence technology.

THE MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER SHOULD HAVE…

  • Proven experience in Mechanical Design Engineering across the full product development lifecycle
  • Strong experience designing complex mechanical systems and mechanisms
  • Expert knowledge of CREO CAD
  • Experience using Windchill PLM
  • Ability to produce high-quality mechanical designs and engineering drawings
  • Experience carrying out structural and kinematic calculations
  • Strong understanding of materials, treatments and manufacturing processes
  • Excellent problem-solving, planning and organisational skills
  • Experience designing products for harsh or demanding environments
  • Previous experience within the Defence or Industrial Automation sectors

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

  • Experience designing Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) or Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs)
  • Experience within Aerospace or Military engineering programmes
  • Knowledge of defence engineering standards and processes

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and develop mechanical systems for Infantry Fighting Vehicle programmes
  • Produce innovative concepts and detailed mechanical designs using CREO
  • Manage engineering data and product structures within Windchill
  • Develop complex mechanisms suitable for demanding operational environments
  • Perform engineering calculations including structural and kinematic analysis
  • Select suitable materials, finishes and manufacturing processes
  • Produce engineering documentation and design packs
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle
  • Resolve engineering issues and support continuous product improvement
  • Ensure designs comply with quality, safety and engineering standards
