Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out mechanical commissioning and decommissioning activities on CHP plant systems.

- Execute isolation, de-energisation, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
- Support removal and disconnection of mechanical equipment.
- Carry out system flushing, draining, purging, and cleaning activities.
- Assist with reinstatement or modification works.
- Identify and report mechanical defects, leaks, or hazards.
- Work closely with electrical, C&I, and demolition teams.

Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for 6x Mechanical Commissioning Technicians to join the EPC Contractor on the decommissioning of a CHP plant based in Purfleet.
The 6x Mechanical Commissioning Technician roles come with a day rate from £400.00 to £450.00 per day outside of IR35.
Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
- Carry out mechanical commissioning and decommissioning activities on CHP plant systems, including safe shutdown, isolation, and preparation of equipment for dismantling.
- Assist with the decommissioning of gas engines and/or gas turbines, including controlled run-downs, fluid draining, preservation, and disconnection of mechanical systems.
- Perform mechanical inspections, condition assessments, and verification of plant status prior to and during decommissioning works.
- Execute isolation, de-energisation, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures in line with site safety and permit-to-work systems.
- Support removal and disconnection of mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pipework, and auxiliary systems.
- Carry out system flushing, draining, purging, and cleaning activities (oil, water, gas systems) to ensure safe dismantling and environmental compliance.
- Assist with reinstatement or modification works where required, including blanking, capping, and mechanical disconnections.
- Identify and report mechanical defects, leaks, or hazards encountered during decommissioning activities.
- Work closely with electrical, C&I, and demolition teams to ensure coordinated and safe execution of decommissioning sequences.
- Maintain accurate records of completed works, test sheets, and decommissioning documentation in line with EPC requirements.
Experience working on CHP plants, power generation, or heavy process environments.
Hands-on experience with gas engines and/or gas turbines (commissioning, shutdown, or maintenance).
Familiar with mechanical systems such as rotating equipment, piping systems, valves, and auxiliaries.
Strong understanding of site safety, LOTO, and permit-to-work systems.
