Summary: The Mechanical Chargehand will oversee mechanical installation activities on a major substation project in Crossaig, Scotland. This role requires a hands-on approach while leading site teams and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The successful candidate will support the Site Supervisor in delivering work efficiently and safely. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate site teams carrying out mechanical and electrical installation works
- Complete task cards and associated quality documentation
- Work in line with QEHS procedures and site safety standards
- Plan and organise upcoming tasks, ensuring drawings, materials, and resources are in place
- Monitor progress and communicate any risks or delays in advance
- Ensure safe working practices are maintained at all times
Key Skills:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent apprenticeship/industry training)
- Experience working on substation or Electricity Supply Industry projects
- Previous experience as a Chargehand or in a supervisory role
- Strong understanding of health and safety within HV environments
- Certifications: CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport, SSSTS, Manual Handling, Working at Height, Fire Safety Awareness
- Desirable: National Grid, SSE or SPEN authorisations, NG Competent Person (NSI6 and/or NSI8), Slinger/Signaller, Lift Supervisor, First Aid at Work, Vehicle Marshall, Telehandler or MEWP
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Hands-on approach with the ability to lead from the front
- Proactive and solution-focused mindset
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- High standards in safety, quality, and delivery

Rates:
- LTD / Umbrella: £35.80/hr (First 37 hours)
- £37.95/hr (After 37 hours / First 4 hours Saturday)
- £41.36/hr (After 4 hours Saturday / Sunday / Bank Holidays)
- PAYE: £26.49/hr (First 37 hours)
- £28.08/hr (After 37 hours / First 4 hours Saturday)
- £30.60/hr (After 4 hours Saturday / Sunday / Bank Holidays)
