Summary: The Coastal State Service Lead role is focused on overseeing regulatory work related to navigation systems and technologies, requiring a Master Mariner with extensive command and project experience. This role is critical as it addresses the knowledge gaps within the Marine Safety and PNT Services Branch regarding new technologies. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee regulatory work on navigation systems and technologies.
- Liaise with stakeholders, including the Lighthouse Authority.
- Conduct research and analysis to develop regulatory positions for new technologies.
- Ensure compliance with international regulations regarding coastal state services.
- Utilize excellent written reporting skills for documentation and communication.

Role has come about as they do not have someone internally that can take on the level of research and excellent written reporting skills required.

- Royal Navy,
- Cruise Ships
- UKHO experience
- Ex senior leaders from military / navy.
Background to the role
Multiple lines of technology being introduced that will replace legacy kit.
The Marine Safety and PNT Services Branch is resourced to undertake regulatory work on existing, established navigation systems and technologies.
It represents the UK at various international forums such as the UN and controls the UK's coastal state services, ensuring that they are compliant with international regulation.
A large number of novel technologies and systems are now being discussed at international forums, with a view to future adoption.
Regulatory teams are not resourced to do the additional research, analysis and liaison work which is required to develop the regulatory positions for these new technologies/systems and close MCA's knowledge gaps.
