Job Overview:
As the Manufacturing Operations Head, you will be at the helm of our manufacturing operations, responsible for engineering, production planning, cost management, and operational excellence. Your strategic vision and leadership will be key to aligning our manufacturing strategies with company goals and market demands. You will foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement while driving the digital transformation of our manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement manufacturing strategies aligned with company goals and global HQ strategies.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to establish production objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).
2. Operations and Quality Management:
- Oversee daily operations of the machine shop and assembly lines, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to production schedules.
- Monitor and manage standard and actual times for manufacturing processes to optimize efficiency and productivity.
- Prepare and present operational performance reports to senior management, highlighting achievements, areas for improvement, and financial metrics related to standard time and cost.
- Collaborate closely with the Quality Management and Regulatory Affairs (QMRA) department to ensure high-quality product output through effective process improvements.
3. Engineering and Maintenance Management:
- Oversee engineering initiatives to design and optimize manufacturing processes for maximum efficiency, safety, and quality.
- Collaborate with R&D teams to ensure new product designs are manufacturable and facilitate seamless implementation into production.
- Oversee the maintenance of machinery and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime through effective preventive maintenance programs.
4. Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling:
- Oversee production planning and detailed scheduling to ensure optimal resource use and timely product delivery.
- Manage material planning to ensure the availability of required materials and minimize disruptions.
5. Standard Cost Management:
- Manage standard costs through comprehensive time studies, lean production methodologies, and automation initiatives.
- Periodically review and update standard costs and times to reflect process, material, and market condition changes.
- Analyze production processes to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
6. Master Data Management:
- Oversee master data management practices to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility across manufacturing operations.
- Implement data governance practices to maintain data integrity and support decision-making.
7. Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement, and Digitalization:
- Drive initiatives focused on operational excellence using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
- Lead digital transformation efforts within manufacturing operations, implementing advanced technologies to enhance productivity and data accuracy.
- Establish and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to achieve consistency and efficiency.
8. HSE Liaison:
- Serve as the primary liaison for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) initiatives within manufacturing operations.
- Collaborate with HSE teams to implement safety standards, promote a culture of safety, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
9. Team Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop manufacturing staff, fostering a positive and high-performance work environment.
- Identify training needs and provide opportunities for professional development.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing operations management, with a focus on machine shops and assembly.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, quality control, and Lean methodologies.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in manufacturing software and tools (e.g., ERP systems, CAD/CAM software).
- Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Proficiency in Japanese and English; German language skills are a plus.
