Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) will lead manufacturing operations to meet production targets and ensure the successful introduction of new products. This role involves collaboration with various functions to address production issues and improve manufacturing processes. The ME will also support the Senior ME in identifying objectives and strategies to enhance business performance in the production of munition components. A strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement is essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent Manufacturing Engineering at daily SQCDP meetings, managing issues and actions.
  • Authority for Manufacturing Engineering in the Production Readiness Review process.
  • Ensure efficient manufacturing processes and facilities meet program requirements.
  • Involve in design processes to support Design for Manufacturing (DfM) initiatives.
  • Support the delivery of a right first-time manufacturing process.
  • Manage change control using Team Centre and ensure compliance with change management BMS.
  • Conduct audits on manufacturing processes and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage Q3's and manufacturing issues using SAP in a timely manner.
  • Support Quality Control in component inspections.
  • Utilize Practical Problem Solving exercises to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Create Process Trilogy documentation for manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure completion and review of PFMEA studies for all processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date Basis of Safety (BoS) documentation.
  • Support Maintenance in creating Planned Preventative Maintenance plans.
  • Facilitate the introduction of new products and processes safely and efficiently.
  • Identify opportunities for process output improvement through waste reduction.
  • Deliver the manufacturing process for new products.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in implementing continuous improvement activities.
  • Safety-conscious attitude with knowledge of integrating safety into the workplace.
  • Ability to influence and engage with stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience in paint finishing, powder paint application, and surface treatments.
  • Green belt / Yellow belt (or above) Six Sigma certification (desirable).
  • Computer literacy (database, spreadsheet, word processing).
  • Degree in an Engineering/Operational Discipline preferred but not essential.
  • Qualified in NEBOSH/IOSH and/or Environmental Managing Safety (or working towards).

The RoleThe ME will suitably lead within the designated manufacturing area to ensure conformance to the manufacturing targets and managing performance within the area.They will also be responsible for the successful introduction of new products into a manufacturing process, ensuring that the process is capable and delivers to the required OEE.The ME will be responsible for ensuring liaison between the IPT and other functions, including Safety, Quality, Procurement and Engineering to successfully tackle production issues, following the relevant processes and procedures, identifying suitable causes, remedial actions and corrective actions.This role is crucial in achieving the business requirements for the manufacture of munition components to the required quality, cost and delivery requirements.The ME will support the Senior ME in the identification of manufacturing objectives and strategies to improve business performance. DeliveryTo ensure the completion and review of PFMEA studies for all processes in the designated manufacturing area.To ensure that all Basis of Safety (BoS) documentation is up to date for the designated manufacturing area.To ensure the support to Maintenance in the creation of effective Planned Preventative Maintenance plans.Support the introduction of new products and processes by providing a safe and efficient means of manufacture, including the creation of accurate Product Data Indexes and Standard Operating Procedures.Support the day to day manufacture of Washington products and the delivery of the Washington Manufacturing Schedule target of >96%, taking responsibility for the delivery of the process.Identify opportunities to improve process output through reduction in waste and process optimisation.To deliver the manufacturing process for new products.
