Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer will support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities for advanced aircraft assembly, focusing on structural installation and electrical wiring integration. This role is integral to a next-generation avionics development program, ensuring the manufacturability and readiness of emerging aircraft technologies. The position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams and adherence to aerospace standards and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both mechanical and electrical assembly processes within the aviation sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support manufacturing engineering activities for NPI across mechanical and electrical/avionics assembly.
- Develop, validate, and release manufacturing plans, work instructions, tooling requirements, and process documentation for aircraft structures and EWIS installations.
- Support integration of LIUs, LRUs, sensors, harnesses, and avionics units into airframe assemblies.
- Conduct build simulations, design-for-manufacture (DFM) reviews, and producibility assessments with design engineering.
- Support industrialization, assembly optimization, and continuous improvement throughout prototype and early production phases.
- Provide shop-floor engineering support, including issue resolution (NCRs, concessions, troubleshooting).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, quality, supply chain, and test engineering.
- Participate in configuration control, change management, and product readiness gate reviews.
- Ensure compliance with aircraft standards, EASA/FAA regulations, and aerospace manufacturing best practices.
Key Skills:
- Proven background in aircraft manufacturing, covering both mechanical assembly and electrical/avionics installation.
- Direct experience with avionics systems or aviation electrical systems — mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of EWIS standards, aircraft harnessing, connectors, backshells, grounding, shielding, and related processes.
- Experience with NPI/NPD, prototype build, or early-stage product introduction.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, 3D models, and installation schematics.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing process development, tooling, and assembly flow.
- Excellent problem-solving ability and experience working with MRB or non-conformance resolution.
- Experience in next-gen avionics, modular avionics architectures, or electric/hybrid aircraft systems (desirable).
- Proficiency with common aerospace engineering tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, SAP/MRP systems, PLM tools).
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, PFMEA, and process optimization methodologies.
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
