Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer role involves working with an established engineering consultancy on aerospace systems, focusing on casting and machining processes. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize casting processes for stable production and high yield.
  • Validate machining operations by defining cutting parameters and tooling strategies.
  • Lead FAI and process qualification activities such as PFMEA and control plans.
  • Troubleshoot process issues to eliminate defects and improve performance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve casting or machining problems.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace standards and maintain robust processes.

Key Skills:

  • Good knowledge of various manufacturing processes.
  • Fully conversant in reading and understanding Engineering & Manufacturing Drawings.
  • Sound knowledge interpreting GD&T standards (ASME Y 14.5, JES 161).
  • Hands-on experience with measuring & testing equipment.
  • Able to support root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • Working knowledge of QC tools and SPC analysis.
  • Experience in CFTs for PFMEA and control plans.
  • Knowledge of concessions, containment procedures, and traceability techniques.
  • Experience with FAIR, APQP, and PPAP.
  • Awareness of aerospace requirements (AS9100, various ISO).

Our client, an established engineering consultancy, require an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join their multi-disciplined team working on aerospace systems, particularly casting & machining processes. This role will involve travel across the UK and EU to various customer sites. Travel costs will be reimbursed.

What the role of the Manufacturing Engineer entails:

  • Develop and optimises casting processes to ensure stable production, high yield, and metallurgical conformity for blades and vanes.
  • Validate machining operations by defining cutting parameters, tooling strategies, and process controls for consistent dimensional accuracy.
  • Good Knowledge of Casting and machining process of turbine blade and vanes
  • Lead FAIr and process qualification activities such as PFMEA, control plans, capability studies, and run-at-rate to ensure manufacturing readiness.
  • Troubleshoot process issues across casting and machining to eliminate defects, reduce variation, and improve first-time-right performance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve casting or machining problems and enhance process capability throughout the supply chain.
  • Ensure compliance to aerospace standards by maintaining robust processes aligned with quality, special process, and configuration requirements.

What experience you need to be the successful Manufacturing Engineer:

  • Good knowledge on various manufacturing processes
  • Fully conversant in reading and understanding Engineering & Manufacturing Drawings
  • Sound knowledge interpreting the GD&T (standards ASME Y 14.5, JES 161)
  • Sound knowledge in measurements system analysis (MSA)
  • Hands on experience in using all types of measuring & testing equipment, both contact - non-contact, analogue & digital
  • Able to support root cause analysis and implementation of problem solving techniques like 8D
  • Working knowledge and experience of using QC tools and SPC analysis
  • Hands on experience of working in CFTs for creation of PFMEA and control plans
  • Working knowledge on concessions, containment procedures and traceability techniques
  • Sound knowledge and experience of working on FAIR, APQP, PPAP
  • Awareness of aerospace requirements (AS9100, various ISO)
