Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer - Casting and Machining Specialist at Quest Global is responsible for developing and optimizing casting processes for aerospace components, ensuring production stability and quality. The role involves validating machining operations, troubleshooting process issues, and collaborating with suppliers to enhance manufacturing capabilities. This position requires a strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and aerospace standards. It is a hybrid role based in the United Kingdom with a contract duration of 12 months, classified as outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops and optimizes casting processes to ensure stable production, high yield, and metallurgical conformity for blades and vanes.
- Validates machining operations by defining cutting parameters, tooling strategies, and process controls for consistent dimensional accuracy.
- Leads FAI and process qualification activities such as PFMEA, control plans, capability studies, and run-at-rate to ensure manufacturing readiness.
- Troubleshoots process issues across casting and machining to eliminate defects, reduce variation, and improve first-time-right performance.
- Collaborates with suppliers to resolve casting or machining problems and enhance process capability throughout the supply chain.
- Ensures compliance to aerospace standards by maintaining robust processes aligned with quality, special process, and configuration requirements.
Key Skills:
- Good knowledge of various manufacturing processes.
- Fully conversant in reading and understanding Engineering & Manufacturing Drawings.
- Sound knowledge interpreting GD&T (standards ASME Y 14.5, JES 161).
- Sound knowledge in measurements system analysis (MSA).
- Hands-on experience in using all types of measuring & testing equipment, both contact non-contact, analogue & digital.
- Able to support root cause analysis and implementation of problem-solving techniques like 8D.
- Working knowledge and experience of using QC tools and SPC analysis.
- Hands-on experience of working in CFTs for creation of PFMEA and control plans.
- Working knowledge on concessions, containment procedures, and traceability techniques.
- Sound knowledge and experience of working on FAIR, APQP, PPAP.
- Awareness of aerospace requirements (AS9100, various ISO).
