About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering major Electricity Transmission and Overhead Line (OHL) projects across the Aberdeen region.

This role offers the chance to work on large-scale transmission infrastructure projects, supporting the commercial delivery of critical energy networks that are essential to the UK's future energy requirements.

Working Arrangement

To ensure a successful integration with the project team and build strong stakeholder relationships, this role will be site-based five days per week for the first six months.

Following this initial period, and once a strong working relationship has been established with the client and wider project team, the position will transition to a hybrid working arrangement.

The Role

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role within the commercial team, supporting project delivery, maximising profitability, managing risk, and ensuring robust commercial governance across a portfolio of transmission projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and support the production of commercial reports, claims and project documentation.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Project Managers and operational teams.
  • Monitor commercial risk and maintain project risk registers.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers, including: Procurement and quotations, Valuations, Variations, Claims management, Final accounts.
  • Administer compensation events and contractual change management processes.
  • Identify and manage variations, delays and commercial claims.
  • Support project forecasting, cost control and financial reporting.
  • Undertake cost/value reconciliations and profitability reviews.
  • Attend project and commercial meetings as required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within commercial processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Quantity Surveying.
  • Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying or commercial role within infrastructure, utilities, energy or civil engineering sectors.
  • Strong understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and commercial packages.
  • Proven capability in contract costing and cost/value reconciliation.
  • Experience administering variations, valuations and claims.
  • Strong analytical, financial and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Advanced IT skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally stay away from home where required.

Desirable Experience

  • Electrical Transmission sector experience.
  • Overhead Line (OHL) project experience.
  • Utility or major infrastructure project background.
