About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering major Electricity Transmission and Overhead Line (OHL) projects across the Aberdeen region.
This role offers the chance to work on large-scale transmission infrastructure projects, supporting the commercial delivery of critical energy networks that are essential to the UK's future energy requirements.
Working Arrangement
To ensure a successful integration with the project team and build strong stakeholder relationships, this role will be site-based five days per week for the first six months.
Following this initial period, and once a strong working relationship has been established with the client and wider project team, the position will transition to a hybrid working arrangement.
The Role
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role within the commercial team, supporting project delivery, maximising profitability, managing risk, and ensuring robust commercial governance across a portfolio of transmission projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and support the production of commercial reports, claims and project documentation.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with Project Managers and operational teams.
- Monitor commercial risk and maintain project risk registers.
- Manage subcontractors and suppliers, including:
- Procurement and quotations
- Valuations
- Variations
- Claims management
- Final accounts
- Administer compensation events and contractual change management processes.
- Identify and manage variations, delays and commercial claims.
- Support project forecasting, cost control and financial reporting.
- Undertake cost/value reconciliations and profitability reviews.
- Attend project and commercial meetings as required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within commercial processes.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree qualified, or equivalent, in Quantity Surveying.
- Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying or commercial role within infrastructure, utilities, energy or civil engineering sectors.
- Strong understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
- Experience managing subcontractors and commercial packages.
- Proven capability in contract costing and cost/value reconciliation.
- Experience administering variations, valuations and claims.
- Strong analytical, financial and commercial awareness.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- Advanced IT skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to travel and occasionally stay away from home where required.
Desirable Experience
- Electrical Transmission sector experience.
- Overhead Line (OHL) project experience.
- Utility or major infrastructure project background.
