Summary: The Management Accountant role is a 6-month contract position within the Financial Management Division of HMRC, focusing on delivering financial management information and insights to support significant digital transformation projects in government. The position requires a proactive finance professional who can work collaboratively to ensure accurate financial reporting and drive organizational change. The role offers flexibility with the option to work remotely or from regional centers. Candidates will be responsible for maintaining financial integrity and providing analytical insights to inform decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver robust financial management information, including monthly management accounts and forecasts.
  • Ensure data integrity and monitor financial risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with Finance Business Partners and the wider finance community.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on financial data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with timetables.
  • Support Spending Review related change funding and investments across business streams.
  • Build understanding of costs and business objectives, providing insights to Finance Business Partners.
  • Manage cost models and ensure consistency across the team and division.
  • Produce ad hoc reports and implement improvements to enhance data and reporting.
  • Deputise for Deputy Finance Business Partner or Lead Management Accountant as required.

Sitting within the Financial Management Division within the CDIO Finance Directorate, this role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, proactive finance professional, who enjoys working in a dynamic and challenging environment, to both deliver exceptional finance service and to drive and influence organisational change through effective financial management. Management Accountants working in CDIO deliver robust, clear, and timely financial management information and insight, including monthly management accounts, forecasts, dashboards, and analysis of options to inform decision making. They ensure the integrity and accuracy of data, that financial risks, issues, and opportunities are captured and monitored, and that a clear narrative is provided on the financial position which reflects a sound understanding of their assigned business area and its objectives. They maintain collaborative customer-focused relationships and networks across the wider finance community, working seamlessly with Finance Business Partners to ensure their customers are supported in a timely, constructive, and consistent way. They bring different sets of data together and draw out the story from the consolidated data. Management Accountants will monitor, analyse, and report on accurate financial data, producing management accounts as well as reviewing and interpreting data to inform regular reporting, ensuring system/ ledger data is correct and in-year timetables are met. This role is focussed on supporting Spending Review related change funding and investments across several cross cutting business streams.

Person Specification As a Management Accountant within the CDIO Financial Management division, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Build and maintain understanding of the costs and business objectives for the designated areas of responsibility and provide insights to the Finance Business Partner function based on working knowledge and analysis.
  • First line of assurance and challenge of the underlying data that informs the forecast.
  • Monitor and manage specific cost models developed for the business area and collaborate to ensure consistency of modelling and trackers across both the team and division.
  • Maintain accurate forecast for area of responsibility and follow standard operating processes, flagging any concerns or discrepancies.
  • Responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the tracking of financial insights and analysis (run rates, monthly variances, forecast movements, profile changes, capital and resource).
  • Comply with financial controls for risks, recharges, accruals/prepayments, incremental costs of change.
  • Tracking and understanding of agreed efficiencies/benefits.
  • Work collaboratively to cover priorities across assigned area, and wider as required.
  • Track resources and related costs.
  • Produce ad hoc reports as directed to support customer needs.
  • Continuously implement improvements to enhance data and reports, identify potential changes to standard reports and share/suggest best practice.
  • Enable finance workflow efficiencies through adopting automation and process improvement.
  • Update cost and financial models.
  • Deputise for Deputy Finance Business Partner or Lead Management Accountant as required.

Essential Criteria AAT Qualified Level 3 Current experience of working in a relevant finance function Good level of knowledge of Management Accounting functions. Good interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and colleagues. Good communicator, able to explain financial data to stakeholders and colleagues. Strong analytical skills with the ability to transform financial data into meaningful insight for the Finance Business Partner. Expertise in IT/Excel and presentation of data.
