Summary: The Management Accountant role at SNG is a fixed-term contract for 12 months, requiring a qualified accountant to provide comprehensive financial management support within the Investment and Development directorate. Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering timely and accurate management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary for senior management teams.
- Presenting financial reports to senior management teams and key stakeholders, explaining complex financial concepts to non-financial colleagues.
- Delivering robust analysis and commentary explaining monthly performance variances against Budgets and Forecasts, highlighting Risks and Opportunities.
- Taking responsibility for the budget and forecasting process, supporting budget holders and knowing when to encourage, instruct, or push back.
- Being a prime point of contact and support on all management accounting matters to executive directors, directors, heads of departments, and operational management teams.
- Providing support for the development of robust financial management information for operational analysis.
Key Skills:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with strong practical knowledge of management accounting principles.
- Strong working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and management account preparation processes.
- Experience in management information report writing and design, including variance analysis.
- Effective communication skills to build trusting relationships with key stakeholders.
- Experience in presenting financial reports and insights to non-finance stakeholders.
- Ability to advise and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical skills with adaptability to changing business needs.
- Highly numerate with strong IT skills, including MS Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Agresso Accounting system, Workday, or Power BI is advantageous.

Are you an experienced Management Accountant looking for your next opportunity? We have a fantastic opportunity for a Management Accountant to join SNG on a fixed term contract for 12 months. Based from our office in either Basingstoke or Wembley, you'll combine office and home working in line with our hybrid approach. SNG is one of the largest housing associations in England. We provide over 85,000 homes and invest in communities across London, the South East, South West and East of England, as well as aiming to create thousands of new affordable homes every year.
What you'll be doing
Reporting into the Head of Investment and Development Reporting, you'll provide support across our Investment and Development directorate to provide timely, accurate and comprehensive internal financial management accounts to senior management teams, giving insight into business performance and drive business decision making.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering timely and accurate management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary for senior management teams
- Presenting financial reports to senior management teams and key stakeholders, being able to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial colleagues.
- Delivering robust analysis and commentary explaining monthly performance variances against Budgets and Forecasts, highlighting Risks and Opportunities, and supporting the business with reforecasting
- Taking responsibility for the budget and forecasting process, supporting budget holders and having confidence in knowing when to encourage, when to instruct, and when to push back
- Being a prime point of contact and support on all management accounting matters to executive directors, directors, heads of departments and the operational management teams
- Providing support for the development of robust financial management information to allow the business to analyse operations in terms of price, mix and volume variances, as well as day- to-day delivery of other operations that may not fit that criteria
What we need from you
You'll be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with strong practical knowledge of the principles of management accounting, forecasting and budgeting. Any previous experience working for a Housing Association would be advantageous but is not essential.
You'll also:
- Have strong, clear working knowledge of processes and controls surrounding budgeting, forecasting and management account preparation, including detailed report writing and analysis
- Demonstrate strong, clear working knowledge management information report writing and design, including detailed variance analysis
- Be an effective communicator with the ability to build trusting relationships with key stakeholders
- Have experience in presenting financial reports, data and insights clearly and confidently to non-finance stakeholders
- Have the ability to advise and influence key stakeholders of all levels in the business
- Proactively challenge, introducing new ideas to drive the progressive development of the business
- Demonstrate strong analytical skills with the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs, demonstrating a logical approach to your work
- Be highly numerate with strong IT skills, including MS Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Agresso Accounting system, Workday, or Power BI would be advantageous but not essential
