Summary: The Management Accountant role is a 6-month fixed-term contract focused on providing accurate financial information and analysis to business unit managers. Key responsibilities include preparing monthly management accounts, developing budgets, and supporting financial audits while collaborating closely with operations managers. The position requires a proactive approach to improving financial procedures and fostering relationships within the operations team. The ideal candidate will be a professionally qualified accountant with a strong understanding of financial performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly management accounts for assigned business units, including journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Develop a deep understanding of assigned business units and analyze variances between actual performance and forecasts/budgets.
- Conduct monthly reviews of management accounts with operations managers.
- Prepare monthly reforecasts in conjunction with operations managers.
- Identify and implement improvements in internal financial procedures for efficient reporting.
- Populate board reports with actuals and reforecasted numbers ahead of deadlines.
- Prepare annual budgets with operations managers, challenging underlying assumptions.
- Collaborate with Financial Controller(s) to ensure timely and accurate accounts.
- Support the completion of the annual external financial audit.
- Liaise with the Shared Service Centre team for accurate processing of transactions.
- Assist credit controller with recovery of aged debtors as needed.
- Visit sites annually to build relationships with the operations team.
- Manage weekly cash flow and maintain fixed asset register.
- Analyze client profitability and complete ONS returns, P11Ds/PSAs, and VAT returns.
- Perform any other ad-hoc tasks as requested by management.
Key Skills:
- Professionally qualified accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operations managers.
- Experience in preparing management accounts and budgets.
- Knowledge of financial auditing processes.
- Proficiency in financial reporting and internal controls.
