In this high-impact role as Major Project Manager, you'll take ownership of the project developing this transformed service. Sitting within the Portfolio Management Directorate, you will work as part of the established programme team. This role would suit a passionate, visible and inclusive leader to manage all elements of delivery and strategic supplier relationships. Success in this role will require you to operate with high levels of independence and with little management oversight. Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- Working to the direction of the Project Executive, provide the day to day leadership and management of the project and project team.
- Identify and manage stakeholder relationships across the programme team and across wider internal and external stakeholder groups.
- Establish robust mechanisms to manage external supplier relationships to ensure successful delivery.
- Enable effective governance and decision making across the project, which integrates into agreed programme structures and tolerance.
- Provide reporting inputs to brief internal and external stakeholders on project progress.
This programme is included on the Government Major Project Portfolio (GMPP). The location of this role is flexible however there will be a requirement for frequent national travel due to supplier engagement, which may include some overnight stays.

Job Description
In this role, you are accountable for:
Delivery
Create and lead the project, in partnership with the nominated project sponsor/executive to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.
Project Management
Day to day direction, leadership and management of the project and the project team. Provide effective project leadership and management controls. . Design the project structure and organisation appropriate to stage. Set appropriate delivery methodologies. Manage effective transition between project phases and through to operational service delivery.
Business Case
Co-ordinate the development and approval of five part Outline and Full Business Cases, contributing to their production particularly the strategic and management cases with respect to project governance, cost and resource estimates, risks, issues and dependencies and high level project plans.
Budget
Develop and seek all necessary internal and external approvals for the budget, tracing actual and forecasting future spend and seeking any necessary changes to the budget and/or the spend profile.
Resources
Identify skill requirements; and deploy and develop resources. Manage medium to large virtual project team, comprising multidisciplinary skills and including 3rd party resources engaged with projects.
Benefits Realisation
ensure the project is set up to allow and support the business in achieving the agreed Business Case benefits and outcomes. Ensure an appropriate Benefits Realisation Strategy is in place, monitor progress towards these during the project and thereafter ensure there is a long-term benefits realisation plan owned and managed by the business.
Stakeholder Management
Identify and manage stakeholder relationships and need for senior level support. Manage internal and external relationships including those needed for both spend control and for other forms of project assurance and those with 3rd party suppliers involved in project delivery as appropriate.
Contract and Supplier Management
for projects involving 3rd party suppliers to implement effective governance working with the NHSBSA commercial team on contractual matters and leading on joint project planning and delivery with all suppliers (internal and external) to ensure end to end project delivery.
Risks & Issues
Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate. Identify and work with related projects to manage interdependencies.
Governance
Support effective governance and decision making. Provide reporting and engage in mechanisms that hold you, as Major Projects Manager, to account for delivery.
Assurance
Engage with gateway assurance reviews and support action on recommendations. Organise assurance processes such as gateway reviews, as required.
Change Management
Ensure effective Change Management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders.
Guidance & Support
Provide support, guidance and coaching for the project team. Show commitment to personal development. Promote effective individual and team performance.
Project Performance & Controls
Cascade vision and translate into delivery objectives for the team. Develop and maintain Project Plan. Identify and set appropriate Project Controls. Manage performance and report progress to sponsors.
