Summary: The role of Maintenance Technician involves working with a leading train manufacturer in the UK, focusing on mechanical and electrical maintenance of rolling stock. Candidates should possess advanced experience in mechanical engineering, ideally from a rail service background, and will be required to perform various maintenance tasks. The position offers a contract of 6 months with training provided and includes both day and night shifts. The role is classified as inside IR35, requiring payment through an umbrella company or PAYE.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Disconnecting underframe equipment, such as water tanks and exhausts.
  • Removing bogies and dismantling/reassembling train components.
  • Understanding engineering drawings and procedures.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance activities on rolling stock.
  • Undertaking servicing and preparation of rolling stock.
  • Participating in continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes.
  • Supporting the delivery of new trains and maintenance acceptance processes.
  • Completing exam tasks in a timely manner and performing basic fault rectification.
  • Adhering to health and safety processes and procedures.
  • Attending testing locations for preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Utilizing modern fault finding and repair techniques.
  • Reading electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics and drawings.
  • Using maintenance management systems and performing modifications on rolling stock.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in rail service and maintenance environments.
  • NVQ Level 3 in mechanical or electrical discipline.
  • Intermediate IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding safety awareness in operational railway engineering environments.
  • Experience with modern maintenance management systems and reliability analysis.
  • Familiarity with fault finding and repair techniques using PC-based diagnostics.
