Summary: The Maintenance Engineer role at a leading food manufacturer in Cambridge involves supporting planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance for production and packaging machinery. The position requires electrical and mechanical fault finding, problem solving, and repairs, along with new machinery installations and project work. The successful candidate will work in a close-knit team and participate in a call-out rota. This role is ideal for a mechanically biased engineer with electrical capabilities and experience in fast-paced manufacturing environments, particularly in food or FMCG sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support PPMs and reactive maintenance across all site production and packaging machinery, site services, and facilities.
- Conduct electrical and mechanical fault finding, problem solving, and repairs.
- Oversee new machinery installations and project work.
- Perform PLC electrical fault finding.
- Work on conveyors, mixers, baggers, production lines, packaging machinery, elevators, metal detectors, stitchers, labellers, and scanners.
- Fix motors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatics, chains, sprockets, control panels, sensors, safety circuits, pumps, blowers, and hydraulics.
Key Skills:
- Mechanical biased engineer with electrical fault finding capabilities.
- Comfortable working in a small team and flexible to working a call-out rota.
- Completed a time-served apprenticeship.
- Level 3 qualified or higher in engineering.
- Electrical and mechanical fault finding skills.
- Experience in fast-paced manufacturing, ideally food/FMCG.
- Mechanical fabrication, fitting, and welding skills (beneficial).
- Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- 17th or 18th Edition qualified.
- Able to work unsupervised.

Knowledge, Skills And Experience

- Ideally have completed a time:served:apprenticeship
- Level 3 qualified or higher in engineering
- Electrical and mechanical fault finding skills
- Must have previously have worked in fast:paced manufacturing, ideally food / FMCG
- PLC : electrical fault finding
- Mechanical fabrication, fitting, and welding skills would be beneficial
- Must have worked with pneumatics and hydraulics
