Summary: The Mainframe Platform Engineer role involves working with a banking company in Manchester on a hybrid basis, focusing on mainframe platform engineering. The position requires expertise in COBOL, JCL, and mainframe migration, along with a commitment to implementing DevOps principles. The engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting technical solutions on a z/OS Mainframe platform. This is an initial 6-month contract position with a daily rate of £250 - £300, classified as inside IR35.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and support technical solutions on a z/OS Mainframe platform.
- Champion a culture shift to DevOps principles, automating the software development lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and instructional procedures.
- Utilize knowledge of VSAM concepts and Access Method services.
- Manage workload scheduling and automation using CA-7, CA-11, and CA-OPSMVS.
- Employ coding and scripting skills with REXX, JCL, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, and CLIST.
- Utilize mainframe utilities such as DFDSS, SORT, File Manager, DFSMS, DFHSM, and Datacom.
- Perform problem management functions using IBM’s Debug Tool and Fault Analyser.
- Tailor CICS and manage environment tools like Omegamon for CICS.
Key Skills:
- Expertise in COBOL and JCL.
- Knowledge of mainframe migration.
- Experience in a CICS technical role.
- Understanding of DevOps principles.
- Ability to develop technical documentation.
- Good knowledge of VSAM concepts.
- Familiarity with z/OS Communications Server concepts.

- Knowledge of CICS tailoring and environment management tools.
Salary (Rate): £300 daily

Eames Consulting is working with a Banking company to secure the services of a Mainframe Platform Engineer on an initial 6 month contract basis to begin with.
Essential Skills & Experience:

- Knowledge in a CICS Technical role, designing, implementing and supporting technical solutions on a z/OS Mainframe platform.
- Experience championing a culture shift to DevOps principles - automating as much of the software development lifecycle as possible.
- Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation and instructional procedures.
- Good knowledge of VSAM concepts and Access Method services
- Basic knowledge of z/OS Communications Server concepts
- In-depth practical experience / understanding across a range of mainframe products and technologies.
- Workload scheduling & Automation; CA-7 & CA-11 & CA-OPSMVS
- Coding & scripting acumen and TSO familiarity; REXX, JCL, TSO, ISPF, SDSF and CLIST
- Mainframe utilities such as, DFDSS, SORT, File Manager, DFSMS, DFHSM, Datacom
