Job Overview
We're looking for an experienced IBM MQ Administrator with strong hands-on expertise across IBM MQ on z/OS environments.
This is an operational engineering role focused on maintaining platform stability, delivering production change, supporting incident resolution and ensuring the continued resilience of critical messaging infrastructure.
You'll work closely with application, infrastructure and platform teams to support a large-scale enterprise MQ environment within a highly regulated financial services organisation.
Responsibilities
- Administer IBM MQ on z/OS production environments.
- Manage Queue Managers, MQ objects, channels and listeners.
- Support Queue Sharing Groups (QSG) and Sysplex environments.
- Configure and maintain MQ security, including RACF permissions and TLS/SSL certificates.
- Perform MQ upgrades, maintenance, patching and migrations.
- Monitor platform health, performance and capacity.
- Investigate and resolve production incidents and complex technical issues.
- Support disaster recovery, failover testing and platform resilience activities.
- Implement production changes in line with ITIL change processes.
- Work closely with application teams during onboarding, migrations and production deployments.
- Participate in out-of-hours support and planned maintenance activities where required.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on IBM MQ administration experience on z/OS.
- Experience administering Queue Sharing Groups (QSG) and Sysplex environments.
- Experience configuring MQ security using RACF, TLS/SSL and channel security.
- Strong knowledge of MQ Queue Manager administration and MQ object management.
- Experience using native z/OS tooling including ISPF, SDSF and JCL.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills within production environments.
- Experience supporting business-critical banking or enterprise mainframe platforms.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes, incident management and change management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with automation and scripting (REXX or similar).
- Exposure to IBM CICS, DB2 or related z/OS technologies.
- Previous experience within financial services or other highly regulated environments.
