Summary: The AS400 System Administrator role focuses on supporting the IBM iSeries (AS400) environment through system administration, monitoring batch jobs, and ensuring operational stability. Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor AS400 system performance and health using system tools and dashboards.
- Track and manage batch job execution, including job queues, job logs, and job statuses.
- Identify and escalate job failures, delays, or anomalies to appropriate teams.
- Perform basic user administration (e.g., password resets, user profile maintenance).
- Manage printer queues and resolve printing issues on AS400.
- Execute routine operational tasks such as backups, IPLs (Initial Program Loads), and system cleanups.
- Maintain documentation for job schedules, system procedures, and incident handling.
- Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to resolve system-related issues.
- Participate in on-call rotation or after-hours support as needed.
Key Skills:
- Basic understanding of IBM i (AS400) operating system and command line interface.
- Experience with job scheduling tools (e.g native AS400 job scheduler).
- Familiarity with AS400 commands like WRKACTJOB, WRKJOB, WRKOUTQ, DSPMSG, etc.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and escalate issues appropriately.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.
- Exposure to CL programming or RPG is a plus.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices or ticketing systems.
