Summary: The AS400 System Administrator role focuses on supporting the IBM iSeries (AS400) environment through system administration, monitoring batch jobs, and ensuring operational stability. Candidates should possess foundational AS400 knowledge and a proactive approach to maintaining system performance. This position requires collaboration with various teams to address system-related issues effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor AS400 system performance and health using system tools and dashboards.
  • Track and manage batch job execution, including job queues, job logs, and job statuses.
  • Identify and escalate job failures, delays, or anomalies to appropriate teams.
  • Perform basic user administration (e.g., password resets, user profile maintenance).
  • Manage printer queues and resolve printing issues on AS400.
  • Execute routine operational tasks such as backups, IPLs (Initial Program Loads), and system cleanups.
  • Maintain documentation for job schedules, system procedures, and incident handling.
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to resolve system-related issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotation or after-hours support as needed.

Key Skills:

  • Basic understanding of IBM i (AS400) operating system and command line interface.
  • Experience with job scheduling tools (e.g native AS400 job scheduler).
  • Familiarity with AS400 commands like WRKACTJOB, WRKJOB, WRKOUTQ, DSPMSG, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
