Summary: The role of Locum Stroke Consultant involves delivering comprehensive care across the Stroke Service pathway, including hyper-acute care, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation. The position is full-time for a one-year term, with flexibility for part-time arrangements. The successful candidate will be responsible for inpatient management, outpatient services, and contributing to service improvement and education within the department. A collaborative approach and commitment to high-quality patient care are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of inpatients on the 43-bed Stroke Unit, including Hyper Acute Stroke patients.
  • Attend and participate in TIA and Stroke outpatient clinics and the Neurovascular Same Day Emergency Clinic.
  • Participate in the Stroke Ambulatory service and support the Early Supported Discharge service.
  • Participate in the weekend HASU rota at a frequency of 1 in 8.
  • Engage in clinical administration and other duties as needed to meet service requirements.
  • Cover for colleagues during periods of absence and support inpatient care with departmental colleagues.
  • Conduct teaching duties and participate in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme.
  • Engage in department, regional, and national audits and service development using Quality Improvement Methodology.
  • Conduct domiciliary visits where appropriate.
  • Participate in on-call duties, currently at a frequency of 1 in 10 overnight.

Key Skills:

  • Experience in Stroke Medicine at Middle Grade or Consultant level.
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to manage inpatient care effectively.
  • Strong communication and teaching skills.
  • Experience with Quality Improvement Methodology.
  • Ability to participate in audits and service development.
  • Collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
