Summary: The role of Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a specialist interest in Fetal Care involves joining a multidisciplinary team for a 12-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, evidence-based care while contributing to departmental development and participating in medical education. Responsibilities include patient care management, collaboration with colleagues, and involvement in clinical governance. This position is integral to improving patient experiences and outcomes within the BSW Hospitals Group.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering high-quality, evidence-based Obstetric and Gynaecology care.
- Working closely with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), including participation in regular MDT meetings and discussions.
- Maintaining continuing responsibility for patients under your care, including associated administrative duties, supported by dedicated secretarial assistance.
- Contributing to the development of specialist interests that align with departmental priorities and the wider strategic objectives of the Trust.
- Participating in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, teaching, examinations, accreditation activities and continuing professional development.
- Providing reciprocal cover for Consultant colleagues during periods of annual, study and other approved leave in accordance with Trust policies.
- Supporting clinical governance through participation in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives and continuing medical education activities.
- Undertaking appropriate duties during emergencies and unforeseen circumstances to support service delivery.
- Participating in the Consultant out-of-hours rota as detailed within the agreed job plan.
- Supporting the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management Team.
- Contributing to the leadership and development of Services under the direction of the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trust’s business plans.
- Ensuring effective communication and involvement of staff across the Division including support to the Divisional Director to achieve their objectives.
- Working in partnership with colleagues in other Divisions within the Trust.
- Assisting in the cost-effective utilisation of resources, including pay and non-pay items such as equipment and drugs, within budgets.
- Working within the Trust’s framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the development of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures.
- Undertaking direct supervision of junior colleagues and participating in departmental/trust wide teaching programmes.
- Undertaking investigations and report writing for incidents and participating in clinical risk management.
- Embodying the STAR values and using the principles of the NHS Constitution for England to guide decisions.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join our dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team for a 12 month fixed term period.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Consultant to contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care across the full spectrum of Obstetrics and Gynaecology services while supporting the continued development of the department.
