A Locum Consultant post has become available in the Gynaecology Oncology department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR). The role is for 6 months as a temporary replacement post to join the team of gynaecological oncologists. This maintains the team at 5 whole time equivalent gynaecological oncology surgeons as per recommendations from an RCOG and external workforce review. Part-time/less than full time applications will be considered. The post will be a gynaecology only post with a requirement to participate in the gynaecology on call rota. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team. A passion for Oncology gynaecology services is essential. Day time gynaecology commitments would include clinics, theatre lists and Gynaecology Hot Week. Additionally, emergency (out of hour) commitments are required to cover gynaecology on a 1 in 11 rota. The gynaecology on call commitment supports complex surgery. A full time Consultant will work a minimum of 10 programmed activities (PA’s) per week and any Additional Programmed Activities (APA’s) as and where required will be agreed through the job planning process. On-call supplements are as per frequency of on-call work. The contract may be supplemented or amended by local collective agreements reached with trade unions recognised by the Trust and the rules and resolutions of the Trust Board. The successful applicant would provide a range of gynaecological services including out patients, emergency gynaecology and theatre. LTHTR is a teaching hospital serving a local population of 450,000 across Greater Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. In gynaecology we provide services in benign gynaecology, early pregnancy, endometriosis, urogynaecology, ambulatory, menopause, paediatric, endocrine disorders, vulval conditions and termination of pregnancy. We also provide tertiary gynaecological oncology services for Lancashire and South Cumbria with a specialist team of gynaecology oncologists. The trust also delivers regional services in neurosciences (neurosurgery and neurology), plastic surgery, renal medicine, vascular surgery, interventional radiology and hosts the regional trauma centre. Preston is one of the four bases for Manchester university medical students. We provide academic support to over 300 medical students in their clinical years 3, 4 and 5. We would like to provide the successful candidates with support and development opportunities for their career progression. This would depend on an individuals need and experience.
