Summary: The Linux Systems Administrator role involves managing critical systems with a focus on software development in C++ within a government and defense context. Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain Linux systems, ensuring security and compliance.
- Create bespoke scripts and assess their suitability and best practices.
- Apply system hardening across Linux environments.
- Implement Firewall rules and policies.
- Conduct event logging, monitoring, and secure system configuration.
- Utilize Ansible playbooks and maintain air-gapped repositories.
- Work within MOD or government environments.
Key Skills:
- Strong Linux skills.
- Experience with C++, Ansible, YAML, Bash, and Python.
- Knowledge of JSP 440/604/453 and Secure by Design (SbD).
- Ability to apply system hardening.
- Experience in government or MOD environments.
- Proficient in implementing Firewall rules and policies.
- Event logging and monitoring expertise.
Salary (Rate): £550 daily

They are seeking a talented Linux Systems Administrator with a software focus (C++), as well as a strong background within Central Government and/or Defence. You'll take ownership of a wide range of responsibilities ensuring critical systems stay secure, resilient, and fully compliant.
This role requires candidates to be onsite twice a week in Portsmouth.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong Linux skills, including creating bespoke scripts and assessing script suitability and best practice.
- Ability to apply system hardening across Linux environments.
- Experience working with MOD or government environments.
- Knowledge of JSP 440/604/453 and Secure by Design (SbD).
- Proficient with Ansible playbooks and building/maintaining air-gapped repositories.
