Summary: The role of Linux Infrastructure Engineer involves supporting a secure government programme by delivering operating system and application capabilities within a controlled virtual infrastructure. This 6-month contract position requires active DV Clearance and focuses on the design, build, and integration of Linux systems, with an emphasis on security and monitoring tools. The position is classified as inside IR35 and requires candidates to be sole British nationals due to the sensitivity of the work. Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build and integration of Linux operating systems - Red Hat preferred
- Provisioning of new systems within virtual environments
- OS upgrades, patching and lifecycle management via Satellite Server
- Security hardening to CIS and NIST standards
- Use of security scanning tools and threat remediation
- Deployment, configuration and troubleshooting of vendor monitoring tools
- Integration with operating systems, container platforms, Active Directory, security tooling and backup solutions
- Build and deployment of network and infrastructure monitoring tools
- Strong troubleshooting across OS and IP networking environments
- Production of High and Low Level Design documentation and build guides
- Deliver against the project technical roadmap
- Linux server builds within on-site infrastructure
- OS hardening, upgrades and patching
- Application deployment and container integration
- Integration with storage, security, monitoring and backup capabilities
Key Skills:
- Active DV Clearance
- Experience with Linux operating systems, preferably Red Hat
- Knowledge of virtual environments and system provisioning
- Familiarity with OS upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management
- Understanding of security hardening standards (CIS, NIST)
- Experience with security scanning tools and threat remediation
- Ability to deploy and troubleshoot vendor monitoring tools
- Integration skills with Active Directory and container platforms
- Strong troubleshooting skills in OS and IP networking
- Experience in producing High and Low Level Design documentation
