Summary: The Linux Engineer (Ubuntu Migration) role is a contract position focused on executing a structured migration from an older Ubuntu version to a newer release within a Defence/MOD-aligned environment. The position requires strong enterprise Ubuntu administration experience and the ability to work independently in a security-first setting. The contract is initially for three months, with the possibility of extension, and requires SC clearance prior to starting. The role is outside IR35 and offers a competitive daily rate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute the migration of Ubuntu versions across a secure environment.
- Assess the current environment and identify dependencies and risks.
- Complete upgrade testing and resolve technical issues.
- Support cutover activities to ensure minimal operational disruption.
- Ensure stability and compliance throughout the migration process.

You'll take a hands-on role in planning and executing the migration across a secure, protectively marked estate, ensuring stability, compliance and minimal operational disruption. This includes assessing the current environment, identifying dependencies and risks, completing upgrade testing, resolving technical issues and supporting cutover activities.
Strong enterprise Ubuntu administration experience is essential, alongside proven involvement in version-to-version migrations. Experience working within Defence, MOD or similarly regulated secure environments would be highly advantageous.
