Summary: The role of Embedded Linux Engineer involves joining an innovative engineering team on a 6-month contract to enhance and modernize an existing Embedded Linux platform. The engineer will be responsible for reviewing the current implementation, improving performance and stability, and collaborating with hardware and software teams. This position requires strong technical skills in Embedded Linux development and real-time systems. The first week will be onsite in Abingdon or Scarborough, followed by remote work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review existing Linux implementation and enhance current architecture.
  • Modernize the platform using best practices in Embedded Linux.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams on product evolution.
  • Develop and maintain Embedded Linux solutions using Buildroot.
  • Configure, customize, and optimize the Linux kernel.
  • Enhance and maintain existing Linux platforms.
  • Implement real-time Linux solutions, including performance tuning.
  • Develop Board Support Packages (BSP) and support hardware bring-up.
  • Develop and debug device drivers.
  • Work with ARM processors and ARM-based platforms.
  • Utilize bootloader experience, including U-Boot.
  • Manage cross-compilation and embedded toolchain tasks.
  • Use version control systems like Git.
  • Integrate APIs and manage file transfer mechanisms.
  • Implement USB and Bluetooth connectivity solutions.
  • Develop features for cloud file synchronization.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware and firmware engineers.

  • Strong commercial experience in developing Embedded Linux solutions.

Embedded Linux Engineer 6-Month Contract - Outside IR35 Competitive Day Rate First Week Onsite (Abingdon or Scarborough), Followed by Remote working We are looking for an experienced Embedded Linux Engineer to join an innovative engineering team on an initial 6-month contract. The client has recently migrated to Embedded Linux and is looking for an engineer to help enhance and modernise the platform, improving performance, stability and real-time capabilities. You'll be responsible for reviewing the existing Linux implementation, enhancing the current architecture, and bringing the platform up to date using modern Embedded Linux best practices. Working closely with hardware and software teams, you'll play a key role in the ongoing evolution of the client's embedded products.

Key skills and responsibilities, Strong commercial experience developing Embedded Linux solutions. Experience with Buildroot for creating and maintaining embedded Linux systems. Strong knowledge of Embedded C/C++. Linux kernel configuration, customisation and optimisation. Experience enhancing and maintaining existing Linux platforms. Real-time Linux experience, including performance tuning and optimisation. Board Support Package (BSP) development and hardware bring-up. Device driver development and debugging. Strong experience working with ARM processors/ARM-based platforms. Bootloader experience, including U-Boot, is desirable. Cross-compilation and embedded toolchain experience.
