Summary: The Senior Legal Officer role involves supervising the Claims and Litigation team within a large public sector organization in Warrington. The position requires overseeing legal proceedings and ensuring equitable management of claims from inception to trial. The ideal candidate should have significant litigation experience and supervisory skills, along with a strong understanding of legal frameworks related to claims. This role offers hybrid working arrangements with flexible hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of 4 Claims and Litigation Officers handling over 2,000 claims annually.
  • Provide expert advice on all claims and litigation-related matters across the company.
  • Support and deputise for the Head of Claims and Debt Recovery.
  • Conduct and complete all stages of legal proceedings, including preparation of pleadings and trial preparation.
  • Compile estimates for Project Managers regarding financial and public relations implications.
  • Provide statistical reports and manage day-to-day team management duties as delegated.

Key Skills:

  • CILEX qualification as a “Fellow” or equivalent qualification, or significant experience in lieu of qualification.
  • Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with experience in claims and litigation.
  • Minimum three years post-qualification experience in claims and debt protocols.
  • Proficient in handling general Civil Litigation.
  • Good knowledge of water and sewerage law and the legal framework within the business.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, negotiating skills, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team.
