Summary: The Legal Counsel role focuses on providing comprehensive legal support for a major offshore wind project within the renewable energy sector. The position involves leading legal work, managing external legal advisors, and advising on various project agreements while supporting the commercial objectives of the project team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Commercial Director and play a pivotal role throughout the project lifecycle. This hybrid position requires a presence in the London office approximately two days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all legal aspects of a major offshore wind project
- Provide strategic legal and contractual advice across all stages of project development, including development, consenting, financing, construction, and operations
- Coordinate and manage retained external legal counsel to ensure effective and efficient legal support
- Support the commercial team by providing practical, commercially focused legal advice
- Advise on and support the negotiation and drafting of key project agreements, including: Survey and development agreements, Consenting and regulatory matters, Grid connection agreements, Agreements for Lease, EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contracts, O&M (Operations and Maintenance) contracts, Procurement and supplier agreements
- Provide legal support in relation to joint ventures, shareholders, and key project stakeholders
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and contractual risks
- Support broader business legal and regulatory matters as required
- Monitor and advise on relevant legal and regulatory developments impacting the project
Key Skills:
- Qualified solicitor or equivalent with minimum 6+ years PQE
- Strong experience in the energy and/or infrastructure sector, gained in private practice and/or in-house
- Demonstrated experience advising on complex infrastructure or energy projects
- Strong commercial mindset with the ability to deliver pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to work independently within a fast-paced project environment

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join a major renewable energy infrastructure project on a full-time contract basis. This role will lead all legal work associated with the development of a large-scale offshore wind project and support the wider commercial objectives of the project team. The successful candidate will form part of the project’s commercial team, reporting to the Commercial Director, and will play a key role in providing robust legal and contractual advice across all phases of the project lifecycle. The role will involve coordinating external legal advisors, managing legal risk, and supporting strategic decision-making across the business. This is a hybrid position requiring approximately two days per week in a London-based project office, with the remainder working remotely.
