Summary: The Legal Counsel - Construction role involves providing specialized legal advice within the Legal and Company Secretariat team, focusing on construction-related matters for a prominent organization in the UK nuclear sector. Key Responsibilities:

  • Working alongside the Senior Legal Counsel (Construction), providing technical legal advice to colleagues in the procurement team, and infrastructure and projects delivery team.
  • Assisting the business to draft and negotiate standard and bespoke contract documents and assisting in contract management (including for example variations, novation and termination).
  • Managing the resolution of disputes.
  • Advising on risk associated with infrastructure planning and governance changes required to implement large scale works projects.
  • Analysing legislative and case law developments.
  • Assessing and implementing improvements in legal and compliance processes.
  • Managing the provision of external legal advice.
  • Assisting with training of colleagues on legal matters.
  • Experience of public sector contracting and governance processes would be beneficial.

Key Skills:

  • Experience of advising on large infrastructure projects as a construction lawyer.
  • Good exposure to NEC contracts and alliancing.
  • UK (or equivalent common law jurisdiction) qualified solicitor with minimum 2 years PQE.

LEGAL COUNSEL - CONSTRUCTION

Their unique nuclear skills and expertise means that they are also able to provide intelligence and support to the UK Government by developing innovative solutions to combat nuclear threat, terrorism and nuclear proliferation.

Working within the Legal and Company Secretariat team, you will be accountable for working with the General Counsel and Company Secretary, Executive Directors, Head of Legal, Senior Legal Counsels and a broad array of senior stakeholders providing bespoke legal advice in a range of areas (with a strong emphasis on construction related legal matters) Our clients infrastructure investment programme over the next 10 years compares to major national undertakings such as Crossrail or Hinkley Point C power station.
