Summary: The Legal Counsel at SYSTRA will provide commercial and legal counselling for the company's operations in the UK and Ireland, focusing on contractual and litigation issues. This role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with legal and corporate policies. The position is based in London with a hybrid working arrangement, supporting SYSTRA's commitment to sustainable transport infrastructure development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and analysis on contractual and litigation issues in the UK and Ireland.
- Draft, evaluate, and advise on various contracts and agreements related to SYSTRA’s projects.
- Support contractual negotiations with clients to meet business requirements.
- Create and maintain relationships with internal clients, operational teams, and external legal advisors.
- Maintain records for correspondence and documentation related to contracts.
- Work with the contract management team to secure contract close-outs, extensions, or renewals.
- Identify legal risks and provide mitigation advice.
- Engage with management to ensure adherence to corporate and regulatory policies.
- Liaise with local insurance brokers for projects and tenders.
- Draft legal notices and manage dispute cases.
- Provide company secretarial support as necessary.
Key Skills:
- Admitted as a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.
- Minimum 3 years PQE in the UK.
- Working knowledge of NEC, PMC, and EPC contracts.
- Proven experience in negotiating and drafting contracts.
- Previous experience in procurement law and an international environment.
- Ideally prior in-house experience with an engineering or construction company.
- Experience in construction, transport, or engineering sectors preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); French is preferred but not mandatory.
